New Delhi, 3rd Oct: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Abhijeet Dipke has announced a proposed protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign.

Dipke made the announcement on Friday night following a demonstration at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, where protesters raised demands concerning electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission.

“If Gyanesh Kumar doesn’t resign, cockroaches from across India will march to Delhi & protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10,” Dipke said in a post on X. He described the proposed agitation as peaceful and called on citizens seeking what he described as free and fair elections to participate.

He also said that if Delhi Police stopped the protesters, the location where they were stopped would become their “Jantar Mantar”.

At the Shivaji Park protest, CJP leaders demanded Kumar’s resignation and called for criminal proceedings against him. The party also sought freezing of the 2025 voter lists and repeal of the 2023 law governing the appointment of Election Commissioners.

Dipke and other CJP leaders made several allegations concerning voter deletions and additions across different states. These claims were presented by the protesters and were not independently established in the material provided.

Dipke also criticised the proposal for simultaneous elections, alleging that the BJP’s objective was “One Nation, One Election, One Party”. He said Maharashtra was chosen for the campaign because, according to the CJP, alleged electoral irregularities had begun there.

The demonstration was held despite police denying permission, according to the supplied account. Protesters gathered around Shivaji Park, with security arrangements extending towards Dadar station. Placards and slogans focused on electoral rights and demands for Kumar’s resignation.

Several public figures, including actors Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, filmmakers Vishal Bhardwaj and Hansal Mehta, singer-composer Vishal Dadlani and Tushar Gandhi, were reported to have attended the protest.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) also extended support to the agitation, while activists associated with Left organisations and student groups participated.

The proposed October 10 demonstration now marks the next phase of the CJP’s campaign against the Election Commission, subject to the developments surrounding its demand for the CEC’s resignation.
