New Delhi, 5th Aug: The complainant in the case involving a 15-year-old girl accused of making abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest has withdrawn her complaint, saying she does not wish to pursue the matter following the teenager’s apology and the Prime Minister’s decision to forgive her.
Supreme Court lawyer Smriti Singh told PTI that the zero FIR was registered on July 29 at Noida’s Expressway police station following her complaint. She said complaints had initially been lodged against eight girls.
The case cited Sections 352, 353(1) and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to insult intended to provoke breach of peace, statements conducing to public mischief and defamation.
Singh said she had earlier stated that she would withdraw her complaints if the girls apologised. After apology videos were issued and Prime Minister Modi publicly said he had forgiven the students, she decided not to pursue the cases.
“Since the prime minister forgave them, I also do not want to pursue the matter further,” Singh told PTI, adding that her decision had been communicated to Delhi Police and the Crime Branch.
The controversy began after a video purportedly showing the teenager using abusive language against the Prime Minister during a CJP-led protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar went viral.
The girl subsequently released an apology video, saying she had been “influenced” and was ashamed of her remarks. Her mother also appealed to the Prime Minister to forgive her daughter and sought withdrawal of the case.
The family’s lawyer, Anil Kumar, claimed that the complaint incorrectly described the 15-year-old as a 25-year-old woman and argued that proper preliminary verification had not been conducted.
Police officials in Noida said the zero FIR was transferred to Delhi Police because the alleged incident occurred in the national capital. Delhi Police sources had earlier said the matter remained under examination and no separate regular FIR had been registered.
