New Delhi, 12th May: National Technology Day 2026 was celebrated with a grand programme at the historic Vice-Regal Lodge of University of Delhi, bringing together scientists, policymakers, academicians, industry leaders and students to discuss the role of science and technology in nation-building.

The event was jointly organised by Indraprastha Vigyan Bharati and the University of Delhi.

The programme began with lamp lighting, floral tributes to Bharat Mata and the University Kulgeet.

Focus on Scientific Innovation and Self-Reliance
Avinash Chandra Pandey, who is also Director of the Inter-University Accelerator Centre, highlighted the importance of scientific innovation in building a self-reliant India during the welcome address.

Vivekananda Pai attended the event as Guest of Honour and stressed the need to align scientific advancement with national development priorities.

During the inaugural session, the brochure for Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan, described as India’s largest online science talent search examination, was also released.

The event was presided over by Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh.

Delhi CM Proposes Science and Innovation Council
A video message from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was played during the event.

She spoke about plans to establish the Delhi Council of Science, Technology and Innovation to develop local solutions for urban challenges in the national capital.

Gobardhan Das delivered the keynote address and discussed India’s technological growth and innovation-driven governance.

Experts Discuss Future-Ready Cities
One of the key highlights of the programme was a panel discussion titled “Delhi as a Global Model: Solutions for a World Class Capital”.

Experts including M. M. Tripathi, Ranjana Aggarwal, A. K. Bhagi and Sachin Ghude discussed climate resilience, sustainable urban development and scientific policymaking.

Another panel focused on strengthening science communication, innovation ecosystems and technology-driven empowerment.

Lecture on Nuclear Technology and Valedictory Session
Former Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research Director Chandrashekhar Gaurinath Karhadkar delivered a lecture on India’s journey in nuclear technology.

The concluding address was delivered by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who emphasised collaboration between academia, industry and government to make India a global technology leader.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem.
