New Delhi/Bishkek, 26th June: India on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to women-led development at the SCO Women’s Forum 2026 in Bishkek, with Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi highlighting the country’s initiatives to promote women’s economic empowerment and social well-being.
Addressing the forum through a video message, the Minister reiterated India’s commitment to the principles of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), including mutual respect, equality and consensus, while strengthening cooperation with member countries.
Speaking during a panel on the role of women in economic development, Annpurna Devi said women are not merely beneficiaries of growth but key drivers of economic progress, reflecting India’s vision of Women-Led Development and the goal of achieving a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
She highlighted that nearly 100 million women are organised into more than 9 million Self-Help Groups, with over 30 million emerging as Lakhpati Didis. The Minister also underlined the role of Mission Shakti and Mission Poshan 2.0 in promoting women’s safety, nutrition, care and economic participation.
India also reaffirmed its readiness to share its experiences and strengthen collaboration with SCO member countries to advance women’s economic leadership and overall well-being across the region.
