Coal dispatch surges 17.34% year-on-year to 86.33 MT as production reaches 69.75 MT

New Delhi, 2nd Aug: India’s coal production increased by 7.51 per cent year-on-year in July 2026, reaching 69.75 million tonnes (MT), according to provisional figures released by the Ministry of Coal on Sunday.

The country had produced 64.88 MT of coal in July 2025.

Coal dispatch recorded an even sharper increase during the month, rising 17.34 per cent year-on-year to 86.33 MT, compared with 73.57 MT in the corresponding month last year.

The Ministry said the growth in production and dispatch reflected sustained efforts to maintain consistent coal supplies and operational stability across the sector.

Coal Production Reaches 302.24 MT in FY27
Cumulative coal production during the April-July period of FY 2026-27 stood at 302.24 MT, according to provisional data.

Cumulative coal dispatch during the same period reached 354.70 MT, registering a growth of 5.87 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Coal India Limited (CIL), the country’s largest coal producer, contributed 50.35 MT to overall production in July, recording growth of 8.42 per cent compared with July 2025.

CIL’s coal dispatch also recorded strong growth, rising 17.43 per cent year-on-year to 63.67 MT in July. Its cumulative dispatch up to July in FY 2026-27 increased 6.81 per cent over the same period last year.

The Ministry of Coal said it remains focused on achieving sustainable growth, improving domestic coal availability and reducing dependence on imports.

The government said the latest production and dispatch figures underline the coal sector’s continuing role in meeting India’s energy requirements and supporting economic growth.
