New Delhi to Host GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit on August 5
Summit to showcase over 100 GI-tagged handloom and handicraft products, launch Digital Handloom Atlas

New Delhi, 2nd Aug: New Delhi will host the GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit on August 5, bringing together overseas buyers, exporters, artisans, policymakers and industry leaders to promote India’s Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged handloom and handicraft products in domestic and global markets.
The summit will be organised at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, in association with the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC).
Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita will inaugurate the summit as the chief guest, while Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao will attend as the guest of honour.
Development Commissioner (Handlooms) Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Amrit Raj and Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks Prof. (Dr.) Unnat P. Pandit will also attend the event.
A major highlight of the GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit will be the display of more than 100 GI-registered handloom and handicraft products from different parts of India.
The event will also feature thematic displays highlighting the country’s diverse weaving traditions, along with live demonstrations of handloom weaving and handicraft-making.
Overseas buyers from around 10 countries are expected to participate alongside exporters, multinational corporations, registered proprietors of GI products and representatives from Central and State governments.
Leading textile brands, retail chains, e-commerce platforms, academia and industry experts will also participate in the summit.
During the inaugural session, GI certificates will be presented to registered proprietors and new authorised users.
The government will also launch the Digital Handloom Atlas — “One Platform. Endless Markets”, a digital platform designed to showcase Indian handloom products, including GI-tagged products, and connect artisans with international markets.
The Diamond Jubilee Logo of the Handloom Export Promotion Council will also be unveiled.
Experts from IIT Madras will make a special presentation on the potential application of Artificial Intelligence to strengthen India’s GI ecosystem.
Technical sessions will focus on GI registration and Intellectual Property Rights, promotion of GI products in the domestic market and strategies for expanding the international market presence of GI-tagged Indian handloom products.
The Ministry of Textiles said the summit is expected to provide a platform for collaboration across the GI ecosystem while strengthening market opportunities for India’s traditional handloom and handicraft sectors.
