New Delhi, 3rd Aug: Parliament on Monday congratulated the Indian contingent for its outstanding performance at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Para Games in Glasgow, Scotland, saying the achievements had brought immense pride and honour to the nation.
In his felicitation remarks in the House, the Chairman said India secured an impressive fourth position in the Commonwealth Games medal tally, winning 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.
India’s para-athletes also scripted history at the Commonwealth Para Games by registering their best-ever performance, securing seven medals comprising three gold, two silver and two bronze.
The Chairman said the performances were testimony to the growing excellence of Indian sportspersons and congratulated all those who contributed to the success.
“On behalf of the House and on my own behalf, I extend our heartiest congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, support staff, the Indian Olympic Association, the Paralympic Committee of India and the National Sports Federations,” he said.
The Chairman expressed confidence that the medal winners would inspire emerging sporting talent as well as young Indians to pursue excellence through hard work, discipline, determination and perseverance.
The House also wished Indian sportspersons continued success and expressed hope that they would bring even greater glory to the country in the years ahead.
