New Delhi,5th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended his greetings on World Environment Day and reiterated India’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development, while highlighting the country’s achievements in expanding green cover and protecting biodiversity.

In a series of posts on X, the Prime Minister praised citizens, environmentalists and stakeholders working towards protecting nature and preserving ecological balance.

“Best wishes to everyone on World Environment Day. I would like to applaud all those passionate about environmental conservation. This is a day to reaffirm our commitment to protecting our environment and furthering growth that is sustainable,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister noted that several initiatives undertaken over the past decade have delivered positive environmental outcomes, including increased forest cover and growth in wildlife populations.

He said India’s success demonstrates how collective efforts, science-driven policies and innovation can contribute to environmental improvement.

“The people of India have shown how collective efforts, policies, belief in science and innovation can improve our environment,” he stated.

Highlighting India’s rich biodiversity, Modi said the country’s diverse ecosystems support millions of livelihoods while preserving a vast range of flora and fauna.

The Prime Minister pointed to the success of conservation programmes for species such as the Great Indian Bustard, snow leopard, sloth bear and cheetah, describing them as examples of how sustained efforts can restore ecosystems and protect wildlife.

He also highlighted the impact of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, saying the initiative has contributed significantly to increasing forest cover across the country.

“Initiatives such as ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ have made significant contributions towards adding nearly 1.19 lakh hectares of forest every year,” he said.

Reaffirming India’s environmental vision, Modi said the country would continue to work towards a cleaner and more sustainable future guided by the principle of “One Earth, One Family and One Future” and the philosophy of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

The Prime Minister also shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam emphasizing humanity’s cultural connection with nature and the importance of environmental stewardship.

Quoting the ancient verse, Modi highlighted the need for clean air, healthy rivers and medicinal plants to ensure the well-being of all living beings.

The message comes as India joins countries across the world in observing World Environment Day, with a renewed focus on sustainability, biodiversity conservation and climate action.
