New Delhi, 27th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Indian weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav for winning the silver medal in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026, describing her achievement as a source of inspiration for the country’s youth.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said Gyaneshwari’s success was even more remarkable because she achieved a personal best during the competition.
“Congratulations to Gyaneshwari Yadav on winning the Silver Medal in Weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026. This success is even more noteworthy because she has achieved a personal best in this competition. May her success motivate the youth of India. Wishing her continued success in the journey ahead,” Modi said.
The 23-year-old weightlifter from Chhattisgarh secured the silver medal with a personal-best total lift of 199 kg, comprising 88 kg in the snatch and 111 kg in the clean and jerk. Nigeria’s Didih Onome Omolola claimed the gold with a total of 206 kg, while Canada’s Rebeka Groulx won the bronze.
Gyaneshwari’s medal added to India’s strong performance in weightlifting at the Glasgow Games, following podium finishes by Mirabai Chanu and Raja Muthupandi. The silver also took India’s medal tally higher as the country’s weightlifters continued to dominate the competition.
