New Delhi, 30th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review the evolving situation arising from the ongoing West Asia conflict and assess measures being taken by various ministries to safeguard India’s strategic and economic interests.
The meeting, the fourth special CCS review on the crisis, was briefed by the Cabinet Secretary on the prevailing geopolitical situation and the government’s preparedness to ensure uninterrupted supplies of petroleum products, liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and fertilizers.
According to the government, the Prime Minister directed that a unified and coordinated mechanism be established for regular monitoring of developments to enable swift implementation of measures aimed at protecting the interests of Indian citizens.
Modi also instructed officials to establish a dedicated mechanism to provide timely information, emergency assistance and counselling to Indian seafarers serving on domestic and foreign-flagged vessels operating in conflict zones, as well as support to their families.
Reviewing preparedness for the upcoming Rabi season, the Prime Minister assessed fertilizer requirements and discussed alternate procurement sources. He directed that all necessary steps be taken to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertilizers across the country.
The Cabinet Secretary informed the CCS that India has diversified its LPG procurement sources and that the overall stock and supply of major petroleum products remain adequate. He said sufficient crude oil availability has enabled Central Public Sector Enterprise refineries to operate at utilisation levels exceeding 100 per cent, ensuring continued production of petrol, diesel and other petroleum products.
The meeting was also informed that the government is expanding Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections, strengthening the National Gas Grid, augmenting LNG import and regasification infrastructure, expanding City Gas Distribution networks and accelerating pipeline connectivity under the Pipeline Infrastructure Order, 2026.
The Prime Minister said every effort must be made to safeguard Indian citizens and the Indian diaspora from the impact of the conflict. He also stressed the need to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy, including solar power and other non-fossil fuel sources, to strengthen India’s energy security.
PM Modi emphasised that a whole-of-government approach should continue to address challenges arising from the West Asia crisis and ensure coordinated implementation of all preparedness measures.
