New Delhi, 29th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at the Congress over the MLC election results after polling for 28 Legislative Council seats across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka was conducted using ballot papers.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Modi wrote, “MLC elections in 28 seats across 4 big states – Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka. Elections held using ballot papers. Guess how many seats Congress won?” He accompanied the remark with a monocle-face emoji, adding a sarcastic tone to his question.

The post came amid a wider political debate over the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs), with opposition parties repeatedly raising concerns about electoral transparency and demanding a return to ballot papers.

According to reported results, the Congress failed to win a seat in the elections, despite contesting in several constituencies. The BJP and its allies performed strongly in Karnataka, while the Samajwadi Party secured multiple seats in Uttar Pradesh.

The results also produced a setback for the BJP in Maharashtra, where Congress candidate Abhijeet Wanjari retained the Nagpur Graduates’ constituency by defeating BJP nominee Sudhakar Kohale.

Congress leaders responded to Modi’s remarks by challenging the BJP to commit to using ballot papers in future Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. The exchange has further intensified the political argument over voting methods and confidence in the electoral process.
