Patna, 14th July: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor has declared assets worth ₹96.06 crore in the election affidavit filed along with his nomination papers for the Bankipur Assembly bypoll in Bihar.

According to the affidavit, Kishor owns movable assets worth ₹22.19 crore and immovable assets valued at ₹73.87 crore. His wife, Dr. Jahnavi Das, a medical practitioner from Assam, has declared movable assets worth ₹89.51 crore and immovable properties valued at ₹12.42 crore.

After filing his nomination, Kishor said his candidature represented a call for political change in Bihar.

“This is not just my nomination but a call for political change in Bihar, where people with criminal records must give up their chairs,” he said.

Before submitting his nomination papers, Kishor offered prayers at Baba Hariharnath Temple in Sonepur. He later led a march with party workers and supporters to the collectorate in Patna.

The Bankipur Assembly seat fell vacant after BJP leader Nitin Nabin resigned. The BJP has fielded Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Neeraj Kumar Sinha in the bypoll.

The affidavit also disclosed that Kishor has an outstanding bank loan of ₹5.77 crore. He owns two flats in Ghaziabad, a 50 per cent share in two additional flats, plots in Patna’s Pataliputra Colony and Delhi’s Vasant Vihar, besides properties in Buxar and his ancestral village.

His wife owns two flats, a one-third share in a bungalow in Guwahati and additional property in Noida.

Kishor is the owner of Vedha Venture Private Limited, which donated ₹85 crore to the Jan Suraaj party during 2024-25. The company had earlier contributed ₹50 lakh to the Jan Suraaj Foundation and ₹2.75 crore to the Joy of Giving initiative.

The affidavit lists eight criminal cases against Kishor involving allegations including defamation, obstructing public servants and fraud. However, no charges have been framed in any of the cases.

A former political strategist, Kishor launched the Jan Suraaj movement in 2022 after quitting election consultancy. Although the party failed to win any seats in the Bihar Assembly elections earlier this year, the 49-year-old leader is now making his electoral debut through the Bankipur bypoll.
