Rajya Sabha to Hold Orientation for New Members
Two-day programme begins July 25; Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan to inaugurate sessions on parliamentary functioning

New Delhi, 24th July: The Rajya Sabha Secretariat will organise a two-day Orientation Programme for newly elected and nominated Members of Parliament beginning July 25, with Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan set to inaugurate the event.
The interactive programme, scheduled for July 25 and 26, aims to familiarise new members with the procedures, practices and functioning of Parliament, particularly the Rajya Sabha. The sessions will be conducted by experienced Members of Parliament and senior officers of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
The programme will begin with a welcome address by Deputy Chairman Harivansh, followed by a keynote address from Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan, who will outline the vision, responsibilities and role of Members of Parliament.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh will also address participants on the functions and role of key parliamentary committees.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will lead a hands-on session on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain and data privacy laws on future legislation and public service delivery.
Senior Rajya Sabha members Dr. John Brittas, Ghanshyam Tiwari, Sujeet Kumar and Pramod Tiwari are also expected to conduct interactive sessions on various aspects of legislative functioning.
Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P.C. Mody will introduce the structure, functions and services of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat and deliver the formal expression of gratitude during the programme. Senior Secretariat officials will also address members on parliamentary procedures and institutional functioning.
The programme will conclude on July 26 with a vote of thanks by Secretary Dr. K.S. Somashekhar, marking the end of the two-day orientation.
