Gurugram, July 14: A 25-year-old software engineer from Chhattisgarh allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death before dying by suicide by jumping in front of a train in Gurugram, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Shreshth Malik, a resident of Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, and Ishara Ayubi, a resident of Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. Both were employed by the same private company in Gurugram.

The incident came to light after Ayubi’s family was unable to contact her and learned that she had not reported for work. They subsequently approached the police and lodged a missing person’s complaint.

During the investigation, police traced Ayubi’s mobile phone to Malik’s rented PG accommodation in Sector 55. After breaking open the locked room, officers found Ayubi’s body lying in a pool of blood. Police said she had suffered multiple stab injuries to the neck, allegedly inflicted with a sharp-edged weapon.

Investigators later established that the room had been rented by Malik.

Around the same time, the Government Railway Police informed Gurugram Police about the death of a man who had allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a train near Garhi railway station. His body was found severed at the waist.

Subsequent investigation linked the railway death to the murder case, confirming that the deceased man was Malik.

Police said Ayubi had moved into the PG accommodation with Malik three days before the incident.

Station House Officer of Sector 56 Police Station, Inspector Manoj Kumar, said the exact nature of their relationship and the motive behind the crime would become clear only after the investigation is completed.

“The police are examining their mobile phones, call records, chats and other technical evidence. An FIR for murder has been registered and further investigation is underway,” he said.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, while forensic teams have collected evidence from the crime scene. Police said the case is being investigated from all possible angles.
