TVK Moves NCW Against Udhayanidhi Over Trisha Remark
Vijay-led party seeks action and apology over alleged offensive remarks; BJP also targets DMK leader

Chennai, 4th Aug: Thalapathy Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) against Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, accusing him of making objectionable remarks about actor Trisha during a political rally.
Calling the remarks “deeply troubling and offensive”, TVK has sought action against Udhayanidhi and is also planning statewide protests over the controversy.
The row erupted during a protest gathering over the Cauvery dispute in Thanjavur on Monday. During his address, Udhayanidhi targeted Chief Minister Joseph Vijay over the Cauvery water issue. When someone in the gathering reportedly began chanting “Trisha, Trisha”, Udhayanidhi responded with what TVK described as an offensive double entendre.
In its complaint to the NCW, TVK alleged that Udhayanidhi “resorted to offensive, double-meaning remarks and vulgar innuendos targeting a prominent female public figure” following the audience chant.
“Such language, delivered from a high-profile political platform, normalises the objectification and verbal harassment of women in public space,” the party said.
TVK argued that the remarks violated the decorum expected from public figures and urged the NCW to take cognisance of the incident and issue a notice to Udhayanidhi.
The party has also demanded an “unconditional public apology” and sought registration of a police case against the Leader of Opposition over the remarks.
TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan strongly condemned the comments, describing them as “absolutely disgusting” and claiming they reflected declining standards in political discourse.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy also attacked Udhayanidhi, describing the remarks as “disgusting, obscene, vulgar and shameful” and demanding his arrest.
The controversy has once again brought actor Trisha into political discourse amid speculation surrounding her personal life. Earlier this year, BJP leader Nainar Nagendran had also drawn criticism over remarks linking Vijay and Trisha, following which the actor’s legal team responded.
