During his engagements across Namchi, the minister interacted with students, tea garden workers, officials and young sportspersons while reviewing projects supported by the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region.

Scindia visited the under-construction Khangchendzonga Sikkim State University at Tarku, the first state university being developed in Sikkim. Spread across 28 acres, the university is partially funded by the North Eastern Council with an allocation of ₹9.61 crore and is expected to accommodate more than 1,500 students after completion.

Reviewing the project, the minister suggested incorporating additional greenery and natural elements to align the campus with Sikkim’s ecological character and appreciated the pace of implementation work.

The minister later visited the Temi Tea Estate and interacted with tea workers and officials associated with the estate. He reviewed tea processing and packaging operations and discussed export potential and international market outreach.

Officials briefed the minister on the estate’s transition towards LPG-based tea manufacturing aimed at eliminating charcoal usage and reducing carbon emissions. During the visit, Scindia also interacted with women tea pluckers while speaking in Nepali.

At the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco Tourism in Chemchey, the minister reviewed the proposed Namchi–Temi–Ravangla tourism circuit being developed jointly by the Sikkim government and the Ministry of DoNER.

The minister also attended the semifinal of the 4th edition of the Sikkim Premier League at Bhaichung Stadium, where he highlighted the Centre’s focus on grassroots sports development, scientific coaching and talent identification in the Northeast.

Scindia said the government’s “One Sport, One State” approach and the Ministry’s 60:40 framework were aimed at strengthening coaching, technology integration and sports infrastructure across the region.

The Union Minister also reviewed the progress of the Bhaleydhunga Skywalk Project being developed under the PM-DevINE scheme at a cost of ₹220 crore. Once completed, the 240-metre-long circular glass skywalk at an elevation of 3,200 metres is expected to become the highest skywalk in the world.
