New Delhi, 22nd Oct: The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held on October 26 and 27 at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced on Thursday.
The forum, hosted under India’s chairship, will bring together parliamentary leaders, Presiding Officers, Members of Parliament, Union Ministers and other dignitaries from BRICS member and partner countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event and meet the leaders of visiting delegations.
Addressing a press conference at Parliament House, Birla said the gathering would advance parliamentary diplomacy and provide a platform for dialogue on shared priorities. The central theme is “Strengthening Parliaments for People-Centric Development.”
The discussions will take place across four high-level sessions covering institutional resilience, human-centred innovation in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, parliamentary cooperation for more representative global governance, and sustainable and inclusive development.
The forum will also feature bilateral and multilateral meetings involving visiting delegations and parliamentary friendship groups. A meeting of delegation secretaries is scheduled for October 25 to finalise the forum’s Joint Statement.
Separately, Chairpersons of the International Affairs Committees of BRICS member and partner countries will discuss parliamentary diplomacy, capacity building and the exchange of best practices.
The programme will include a cultural event, while the Vice-President of India will host a banquet for visiting dignitaries. Delegation members will also visit the Parliament of India and participate in cultural visits in Delhi. The forum will conclude on October 27.
