Udhampur, 20th April: At least 15 people were killed and around 20 others injured after a passenger bus rolled down a hill in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday, officials said.
The accident occurred near Kagort village in the Ramnagar area at around 10 am when the bus was negotiating a blind curve and lost control.
Local residents were the first to reach the spot and began rescuing passengers trapped in the wreckage. Police and emergency teams soon joined the operation.
Officials confirmed that 15 bodies were recovered from the site, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Several of them are reported to be in serious condition.
The bus was travelling from a remote village towards Udhampur when the accident took place, officials added.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh said he spoke to Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa following the incident and assured all possible assistance.
Arrangements are being made to airlift critically injured victims for advanced medical treatment, he said.
“The rescue operation has been immediately undertaken. Heavy casualties are expected. All possible assistance is being provided,” Singh said in a post on X.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, while rescue and relief efforts continue at the site.
