New Delhi, 8th April: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for the Kharif 2026 season to ensure the availability of fertilisers at affordable prices for farmers.

The subsidy will apply to Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers, including DAP and NPKS grades, for the period from April 1 to September 30, 2026.

The government has earmarked an estimated ₹41,533.81 crore for the subsidy, which is about ₹4,317 crore higher than the allocation for the Kharif 2025 season.

Under the NBS scheme, subsidies are provided to fertiliser manufacturers and importers based on approved nutrient rates, enabling them to supply fertilisers to farmers at controlled prices.

Officials said the decision takes into account recent fluctuations in global fertiliser prices and input costs such as urea, DAP, MOP and sulphur.

The move is aimed at ensuring timely availability of 28 grades of P&K fertilisers across the country, supporting agricultural productivity during the crucial Kharif sowing season.

The government reiterated its commitment to a farmer-centric approach, focusing on affordability and accessibility of key agricultural inputs.
