New Delhi, 20th Oct: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his reported trip to Vietnam, alleging that he travelled abroad while the Opposition was protesting. The Congress has rejected the criticism, questioning why his foreign visits should become a political issue.
The BJP shared a video on its X handle that purportedly showed Gandhi aboard a flight to Vietnam. In a sarcastic post, the party suggested that the Leader of Opposition had taken a break from political activity.
BJP spokesperson RP Singh alleged that Gandhi frequently travels abroad after political engagements. Referring to his participation in the Bihar campaign, Singh claimed that the Congress leader had previously taken an extended overseas holiday and suggested that he might have returned to Vietnam.
BJP leader Shazia Ilmi also targeted Gandhi, questioning his ability to sustain political activity for an extended period. She alleged that he had left for another trip after a brief spell of work and dismissed the Opposition’s vote-theft protest as an excuse.
These remarks reflect the BJP’s allegations; the video shared by the party was described as purportedly showing Gandhi on a flight to Vietnam.
Congress Hits Back
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit defended Gandhi’s right to travel, arguing that his movements should not become a political controversy. He said the Leader of Opposition engages with students at universities, interacts with intellectuals and participates in press interviews during overseas visits.
Dikshit also questioned the BJP’s objections by referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits. He raised the issue of the convention that the Prime Minister does not travel abroad while the Lok Sabha is in session, alleging that Modi had broken that tradition.
He asked why the BJP did not raise similar questions over the Prime Minister’s overseas visits.
The exchange has brought Rahul Gandhi’s reported travel back into the political spotlight, with the BJP questioning its timing and the Congress maintaining that the issue is being unnecessarily politicised.
