Rishikesh, 23rd April: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday called upon graduating students to serve with empathy, integrity and commitment to nation-building while addressing the 6th convocation ceremony of AIIMS Rishikesh in Uttarakhand.

Describing the convocation as a moment of transition and responsibility, he urged students to approach their profession with dedication and purpose. He highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of Rishikesh, noting that the setting adds deeper meaning to the occasion.

Referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vice President said India demonstrated resilience and innovation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that over 140 crore citizens received free vaccines, ensuring equitable healthcare access.

He also highlighted the Vaccine Maitri initiative, under which vaccines were supplied to over 100 countries, reflecting India’s global responsibility.

Emphasising healthcare expansion, Radhakrishnan said the establishment of new AIIMS institutions has strengthened access to quality care, especially in underserved areas. He added that healthcare must extend beyond hospitals, praising telemedicine and innovative delivery models.

He commended AIIMS Rishikesh for integrating clinical care, research, and innovation, and highlighted initiatives such as helicopter emergency medical services and drone-based medicine delivery during the Char Dham Yatra.

The Vice President also praised Pushkar Singh Dhami for strengthening infrastructure and public services in the state.

He urged medical professionals to focus on preventive care, rural outreach and research, stating that healthcare is a public trust and a key pillar of nation-building.

Among those present were Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh, Union Minister of State Anupriya Patel, and senior officials of AIIMS Rishikesh.
