New Delhi, 14th May: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced a series of fuel conservation and energy-saving measures for government offices following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for economic prudence amid rising global uncertainties.

The measures, which will come into effect from Friday, include two days of work from home for government offices and reduced use of official vehicles.

‘Monday Metro’ Campaign Launched
The BJP-led Delhi government also launched a campaign titled “Mera Bharat Mera Yogdan” to promote fuel conservation and efficient governance.

Under the initiative, every Monday will be observed as “Monday Metro”, with ministers, officers and government employees expected to commute using Metro services.

The government has additionally appealed to citizens to observe one “No Vehicle Day” every week.

Officials said no new petrol, diesel or electric vehicles would be purchased by the Delhi government for the next six months.

CM Cuts Convoy Size
Rekha Gupta also reduced her official convoy by nearly 60 per cent, limiting it to four vehicles, including two electric vehicles.

The government said the move reflected a shift towards cleaner and sustainable official mobility.

Transport allowance for employees has also been increased by 10 per cent as part of the initiative.

Foreign Travel Ban and Energy Measures
The Delhi government announced that no minister or officer would undertake official foreign travel for the next one year.

A 90-day public awareness campaign will also be launched to encourage fuel savings and responsible consumption practices.

To reduce electricity consumption, air conditioners in government offices will now be maintained between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Officials said master switches would also be installed in offices to prevent unnecessary electricity usage.

PM Modi’s Appeal on Fuel Conservation
The announcement follows PM Modi’s recent appeal asking citizens to help protect the Indian economy from global uncertainties arising from tensions in West Asia.

The Prime Minister had urged people to conserve fuel, use public transport, adopt carpooling and increase use of electric vehicles.

He also encouraged offices and industries to revive work-from-home arrangements, virtual meetings and online conferences to reduce fuel consumption.

According to officials, PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have also reduced the size of their official convoys as part of the larger campaign.
