Kochi, 30th May: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has intensified its anti-narcotics campaign in Kerala under Operation Chakravyuh, seizing more than 24 kilograms of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and arresting five persons linked to drug trafficking networks.
The coordinated operations were carried out by the DRI’s Cochin Unit across Kochi, Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram, targeting organised drug smuggling and distribution channels.
According to officials, the seized contraband included methaqualone, methamphetamine and hashish oil intended for illegal distribution and trafficking.
The DRI said the narcotics were detected through multiple modes of smuggling, including passenger baggage at airports, concealed courier consignments and outbound export cargo.
Five individuals, including key operatives allegedly associated with trafficking networks, were apprehended under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Officials said the seizures underscore the agency’s continued vigilance and efforts to dismantle organised drug trafficking networks operating through both international and domestic routes.
The latest crackdown forms part of a broader enforcement strategy aimed at curbing the movement of narcotic substances through Kerala, which has emerged as a key transit point in several recent investigations.
The DRI noted that during the previous financial year, its Cochin Zonal Unit seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances valued at approximately ₹70.76 crore in Kerala and arrested 21 individuals in connection with various NDPS cases.
The agency reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and supporting the Government of India’s vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” or Drug-Free India.
