Kurnool, 2nd June: Eighteen people have been arrested for allegedly vandalising public and private property during celebrations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title victory.

The incident occurred near Raj Vihar Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool city on Sunday night as large numbers of cricket fans gathered on the streets to celebrate RCB’s championship triumph.

According to police, some members of the crowd turned unruly and targeted several Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses, smashing windows and causing damage to public property. A number of private vehicles and roadside installations were also reportedly damaged during the celebrations.

Following complaints, police registered a case and launched an investigation. District Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil directed officers to identify those responsible and initiate strict action.

Investigators examined CCTV footage from the area, videos circulated on social media and other technical evidence before identifying 18 individuals allegedly involved in the vandalism.

On Monday, the accused were brought from the Two Town Police Station and escorted to court under tight security. Police also conducted a public march with the accused through parts of the city, drawing the attention of local residents and traders.

Officials said the arrests were intended to send a strong message that damage to public and private property would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Kurnool police warned that celebrations, irrespective of the occasion, cannot become a pretext for lawlessness or destruction of public assets.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police said more individuals could be questioned if further evidence emerges during the probe.

The arrested persons have been produced before the court, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The incident comes amid widespread celebrations by RCB supporters across several cities after the Bengaluru-based franchise secured its second IPL title, though authorities have urged fans to celebrate responsibly and within the bounds of the law.
