New Delhi, 9th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received congratulatory messages from several world leaders as he became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, with leaders praising his governance, development vision and growing global influence.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, leaders from across the world acknowledged Modi’s role in transforming India’s economy, strengthening its global standing and championing the interests of the Global South.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in a letter dated June 8, described the milestone as a reflection of the trust and confidence repeatedly placed in Modi by the people of the world’s largest democracy.

“This milestone is a testament not only to your years in office, but also to the trust and confidence that the people of the world’s largest democracy have repeatedly placed in your leadership,” Dissanayake said.

The Sri Lankan President also highlighted India’s economic and social transformation under Modi’s leadership and said his vision had inspired many beyond India’s borders. He recalled Modi’s April 2025 visit to Sri Lanka, during which he was conferred the Mitra Vibhushana, the island nation’s highest civilian honour for a foreign dignitary.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape described Modi as “a role model and an example of leadership” in a personal video message.

Praising India’s development journey, Marape said, “Lifting over 200 million people out of poverty to good life today is an amazing feat.” He also expressed his country’s desire to further strengthen bilateral ties with India.

Marape recalled Modi’s historic visit to Papua New Guinea in May 2023 for the Third Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation Summit, the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Pacific nation.

Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar also congratulated Modi, saying that under his leadership India had emerged as a leading voice on global issues.

She highlighted Modi’s journey from humble beginnings to leading a nation of over 1.4 billion people through three consecutive terms and praised India’s achievements in economic growth, infrastructure development, foreign policy and social welfare.

Persad-Bissessar also referred to Modi’s landmark visit to Trinidad and Tobago in July 2025, the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Caribbean nation in 26 years.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the messages reflected international recognition of India’s growing role in global affairs and the leadership provided by Prime Minister Modi over the past decade.
