New Delhi, 14th June: Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken is likely to be appointed as the National Working President of the Indian National Congress as part of a broader organisational restructuring exercise, according to party sources.
Sources said the Congress leadership is considering elevating Maken to the key post to strengthen the party’s organisational machinery ahead of a series of important state elections and future political challenges.
While no official announcement has been made so far, discussions within the party indicate that a decision could be taken soon after consultations among the top leadership.
Maken, a former Union Minister and current Treasurer of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), is regarded as one of the party’s experienced organisational leaders. He is also a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s highest decision-making body.
Party insiders believe his elevation could help improve coordination between the central leadership and state units at a time when the Congress is focusing on rebuilding its organisational structure across several states.
Over the years, Maken has handled a number of key assignments for the Congress, including election management, organisational affairs and policy-related responsibilities. He has also played an active role in party affairs in Delhi and several other states.
The reported move comes as the Congress continues efforts to strengthen its organisational framework under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and prepare for upcoming electoral contests.
Political observers view the possible appointment as a step towards enhancing the party’s organisational effectiveness and streamlining decision-making processes at various levels.
The Congress leadership has not officially commented on the speculation, and an announcement is awaited.
