The deceased were identified as Prema Devi (32), Gangashri alias Sarla (32), Rajkumari (50), Revati (80), Narayani (30) and Aarti (30). The injured, including e-rickshaw driver Shani and two women passengers, were admitted to a medical college where their condition remains critical.
According to police, eight women from a family were travelling to Garhhauna village to invite relatives for the wedding of Kunwar Pal, son of Dalchand Maurya of Murawan Nagla village, scheduled for June 29.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the e-rickshaw driver was trying to avoid one tractor when the vehicle was hit by another speeding tractor coming from the opposite direction, causing severe damage to the e-rickshaw.
District Magistrate Avneesh Rai and Senior Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma visited the accident site. Rai said both tractor drivers have been taken into custody and an investigation is underway.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, while an inquiry team headed by the Additional District Magistrate (Administration) has been formed to probe the incident.
