Tarakeswar, 18th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on June 20 from Tarakeswar in Hooghly district of West Bengal. More than ₹18,880 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.44 crore eligible farmers across the country, including more than 2.18 crore women farmers.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture with the support of the Government of West Bengal, will be celebrated as PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas through programmes at state, district, block and Gram Panchayat levels. More than one crore farmers are expected to connect to the main event through Krishi Vigyan Kendras, ICAR institutions, agricultural universities, Farmer Producer Organisations, agriculture mandis and PM Kisan Samriddhi Kendras.
With the release of the 23rd instalment, the cumulative financial assistance under PM-KISAN will cross ₹4.46 lakh crore since the launch of the scheme in February 2019.
In West Bengal, more than 45.35 lakh farmers will receive over ₹907.21 crore under the latest instalment, taking the total assistance provided to farmers in the state to over ₹15,055 crore.
During the programme, the Prime Minister will also launch the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in West Bengal. The initiative aims to provide crop insurance coverage to nearly 1.10 crore farmers across around 30 lakh hectares of agricultural land during 2026-27, covering crops worth an estimated ₹28,140 crore with premium support of approximately ₹777 crore from the Centre and the state government.
The Prime Minister will also launch AgriStack under the Digital Agriculture Mission in West Bengal. The digital platform will enable farmers to access services such as fertiliser distribution, Kisan Credit Cards, direct benefit transfers and Minimum Support Price procurement through a verified digital ecosystem.
Further, the National Mission on Natural Farming will be launched in the state under the 2026-27 action plan. The mission will establish 346 natural farming clusters across 17,300 hectares and benefit around 43,250 farmers while promoting chemical-free agriculture, bio-input centres and Krishi Sakhis.
PM Modi will also initiate the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) in Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jhargram districts of West Bengal. The scheme aims to improve agricultural productivity, encourage crop diversification, strengthen irrigation and post-harvest infrastructure, and enhance farmers’ access to institutional credit through convergence of various development schemes.
