President Murmu Urges MES Officers to Drive Self-Reliance
President asks Military Engineer Services trainees to uphold excellence, innovation and integrity

New Delhi, 25th June: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday called upon young officers of the Military Engineer Services (MES) to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, innovation and integrity, while emphasising the importance of self-reliance and sustainable development in strengthening India’s defence infrastructure.
The President was addressing officer trainees of the 2023 and 2024 batches of the Military Engineer Services, who called on her at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Describing the MES as the backbone of India’s defence infrastructure, Murmu said the organisation plays a vital role in developing and maintaining strategic installations that enhance the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces.
She said the dedication and technical expertise of MES officers ensure that soldiers, sailors and air warriors are able to perform their duties effectively in safeguarding the nation.
The President urged the young officers to embrace emerging technologies, maintain technical excellence and strive for the highest standards in every project they undertake.
Highlighting the changing global security environment, Murmu said self-reliance has become a strategic necessity for nations. Referring to Operation Sindoor, she said the operation demonstrated how indigenous defence capabilities, advanced technology and a strong domestic industrial base contribute to operational readiness and strategic effectiveness.
She expressed satisfaction that the Military Engineer Services is increasingly promoting and using Made in India products in its projects.
The President also stressed the need to integrate sustainable practices into defence infrastructure development, saying climate change and environmental challenges have made sustainable development an imperative rather than a choice.
She urged MES officers to adopt environmentally responsible practices in planning, construction and maintenance so that their work contributes to building not only a strong and secure India but also a clean, green and sustainable nation.
