Ratlam, 26th June: At least three people were killed and 10 others injured after a Muharram Tazia procession came into contact with a high-tension power line in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district late Thursday night, officials said.
The incident occurred around 11:15 pm in Hatnara village under the Pipaluda police station limits when the Tazia was being carried through Mewati Mohalla.
According to eyewitnesses, the Tazia touched an overhead high-voltage power line, electrocuting those carrying it. Several others nearby also suffered electric shock after coming into contact with the victims.
Ratlam Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar confirmed that three people died in the incident, while the injured were admitted to various hospitals for treatment. He said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
Ratlam Medical College official Dr Ravindra Solanki said three of the injured brought to the hospital were declared dead on arrival.
Authorities are investigating the incident and reviewing safety arrangements for religious processions in the area.
