New Delhi, 2nd July: India and Seychelles have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in agricultural research, education and technology transfer during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the island nation.

The agreement was signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Agriculture Department of Seychelles under the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Blue Economy.

To operationalise the partnership, both sides also signed a five-year Work Plan (2026–2031) focusing on climate-smart agriculture, horticulture, livestock development, post-harvest management and sustainable food and nutritional security.

The MoU provides a framework for joint research programmes, exchange of scientists, researchers and students, capacity building, and sharing of advanced agricultural technologies and best practices.

According to the government, the partnership aims to strengthen institutional cooperation, improve agricultural productivity and address common challenges such as climate change and food security. The agreement also reinforces India’s commitment to expanding agricultural collaboration with countries of the Global South through sustainable and innovation-driven farming practices.
