New Delhi, 5th July: India will host the BRICS Women Working Group (WWG) Meeting in Kochi, Kerala, on July 6-7 under its BRICS Chairship, bringing together senior government officials from all 11 member countries to strengthen cooperation on women’s empowerment and women-led development.
The meeting will focus on advancing collaboration in four priority areas identified under India’s BRICS Chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”—women in governance and leadership, digital and financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and skill development, and women’s role in climate action, food security and nutrition.
According to the Ministry, the meeting will provide an opportunity for member countries to build consensus on key outcome documents and strengthen cooperation on issues affecting women’s social, political and economic participation.
The BRICS grouping comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, accounting for around 40 per cent of global GDP and nearly half of the world’s population.
The Kochi meeting follows three virtual preparatory consultations held in April, May and June this year to advance discussions among member countries.
The deliberations are expected to lay the groundwork for the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting, scheduled to be held in Kochi on July 8-9, reaffirming the bloc’s commitment to practical cooperation and women-led development.
