New Delhi, 21st July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives in the collapse of an under-construction tunnel in Namchi, Sikkim, and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families and the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The Prime Minister said an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while ₹50,000 will be given to every injured person.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, Modi also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was “anguished by the loss of lives due to the collapse of an under-construction tunnel in Namchi, Sikkim” and conveyed his sympathies to the affected families.
The announcement comes as rescue agencies continue efforts to evacuate workers trapped inside the collapsed tunnel at the NHPC Teesta Stage-VI Hydroelectric Project in Namchi district following a methane gas explosion and landslide.
