New Delhi, 23rd July: Former BJP president Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday urged the government to respond to the ongoing student protests in the national capital with empathy, saying the concerns of the youth over the examination system were genuine and deserved a lasting solution.
In a post on X, Joshi said it was painful to see students from different parts of the country protesting on the streets of New Delhi for several days.
“Their anxieties and concerns regarding the examination system are genuine and must be handled with empathy and a desire to find a lasting solution,” he said.
The veteran BJP leader cautioned against treating the agitation merely as a law-and-order issue and warned that the use of force against protesters could have wider social consequences.
“I fervently hope that this is not treated merely as a law-and-order issue to be tackled through the use of force. It is very painful to see that even young girls were brutally mishandled. Such use of force shall alienate large sections of Indian society from the national goal of Viksit Bharat,” Joshi said.
The protests at Jantar Mantar began on June 6 under the leadership of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with demonstrators raising issues related to the alleged NEET paper leak, alleged irregularities in the CBSE’s on-screen marking process, and demanding broader reforms in the conduct of public examinations.
The agitation gained further momentum after Ladakh-based activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the protest with an indefinite hunger strike on June 28.
