President Murmu Invites Romanian Investment in India

BUCHAREST, 24th July: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday invited Romanian companies to actively participate in India’s growth story, saying the country’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 presents immense opportunities for international partnerships, investment and technology collaboration.
Addressing the India-Romania Business Forum in Bucharest in the presence of Romanian President Nicușor Dan, government representatives and business leaders from both countries, Murmu described Romania as a natural and valuable partner for India owing to its strategic location, skilled workforce and strong integration with the European Union.
She said the participation of a large Indian business delegation at the forum reflected growing confidence among Indian industries in Romania’s investment potential and their commitment to building long-term commercial partnerships.
Highlighting the importance of economic ties, the President said trade and investment remain central pillars of the India-Romania partnership. She noted that the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), covering a combined market of nearly two billion people and an economy worth around 25 trillion US dollars, would significantly deepen trade integration, strengthen investment flows and create resilient supply chains.
Murmu stressed that the timely implementation of the FTA would provide a predictable business environment while creating new opportunities for MSMEs, startups and innovators on both sides.
Referring to India’s rapid economic growth, the President said the government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision aims to transform the country into a developed nation by the centenary of Independence through reforms that promote a transparent, predictable and investor-friendly business environment.
She highlighted several sectors with strong potential for bilateral cooperation, including energy security, green transition, chemicals and fertilisers, digital public infrastructure, information technology, cybersecurity, transportation, logistics, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture and food processing.
Expressing confidence in the business communities of both countries, Murmu said stronger commercial partnerships would help build resilient supply chains, generate employment, promote innovation and create sustainable prosperity for the people of India and Romania.
