New Delhi, 31st July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a building collapse in Thane, Maharashtra, and announced ex-gratia assistance for the families of those killed and people injured in the incident.
The Prime Minister said he was pained by the tragedy and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced that an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be provided to the next of kin of each person who died in the collapse.
Those injured in the incident will receive ₹50,000 each from the PMNRF.
“Pained to hear about the loss of lives due to the collapse of a building in Thane, Maharashtra. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. May the injured recover at the earliest,” the Prime Minister said, according to a post shared by the PMO on X.
The announcement comes after a four-storey building collapsed in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi area of Thane district, triggering a major multi-agency rescue operation.
