PM Modi Inaugurates Viveka Smaraka in Mysuru

• PM Modi inaugurated the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre in Mysuru.

Mysuru, 1st Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre — Viveka Smaraka — in Mysuru, Karnataka, and called upon the younger generation to turn Swami Vivekananda’s vision for India into reality.

Addressing the gathering, Modi said Swami Vivekananda “truly embodied the spirit of India” and recalled his own spiritual connection with the teachings of the Ramakrishna Mission.

The Prime Minister described Mysuru as an important centre of India’s cultural consciousness and praised the city for preserving its heritage, traditions and historic legacy.

Highlighting the historical connection between Swami Vivekananda and Mysuru, Modi recalled how the then Maharaja of Mysuru recognised and supported the young wandering monk more than 130 years ago, before he achieved international recognition.

The Prime Minister said the newly inaugurated Viveka Smaraka should help nurture young people who place service to the nation and the welfare of the poor above personal ambitions.

‘India’s Youth Driving Global Growth’
PM Modi said Indian youth, who lived under colonial rule during Swami Vivekananda’s time, are today contributing significantly to global development.

He credited the country’s young generation with driving India’s emergence as the fastest-growing major economy and the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, while also pushing advances in artificial intelligence, deep tech, space technology and innovation.

“Today, India is writing glorious new chapters in AI, Deep Tech, Space Technology, and Innovation purely by the sheer capability of our youth,” Modi said.

Highlighting the expansion of education infrastructure, the Prime Minister said more than 650 new universities and 14,000 colleges had been established over the past decade, while the number of MBBS seats had nearly doubled to 1.40 lakh.

He also highlighted the National Education Policy, more than 14,000 PM SHRI schools and 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs as part of efforts to promote innovation and scientific temperament among students.

Modi said reforms such as opening Sainik Schools and the National Defence Academy to women and introducing professional courses in Indian languages were helping expand educational opportunities.

The Prime Minister also called upon young people to focus on physical fitness, sports, water conservation and environmental protection.

Referring to Karnataka’s cultural heritage, he urged the younger generation to reduce excessive screen dependence and reconnect with Kannada literature. He also appealed to citizens to support local artisans by purchasing indigenous handicrafts, silk and sandalwood products under the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative.

Concluding his address, Modi said Viveka Smaraka would serve as a source of inspiration and energy for young Indians as they work towards fulfilling Swami Vivekananda’s vision for the country.
