President Murmu Flags Off PBG Soldierathon
Event at Delhi Cantonment aims to strengthen civilian-Armed Forces ties and support soldiers, battle casualty wards and PBG personnel

New Delhi, 2nd Aug: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday virtually flagged off the President’s Bodyguards (PBG) Soldierathon from a ceremony at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, celebrating the service, courage and sacrifice of India’s Armed Forces.
General (Dr) VK Singh (Retd), Governor of Mizoram and patron of the initiative, was present at the ceremony. The President also released a Special Postal Cover to commemorate the occasion.
The Soldierathon race was held at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment and featured three categories — 3 km, 5 km and 10 km.
Built around the vision “Run for Soldiers, Run with Soldiers,” the Soldierathon seeks to strengthen the bond between civilians and the Armed Forces. This year’s event was centred on the theme “Supporting Real Heroes – the Armed Forces of India.”
The initiative provides citizens with a platform to express solidarity with soldiers through active participation while recognising their dedication and sacrifices in the service of the nation.
Proceeds generated through Soldierathon events are used to support causes associated with the Armed Forces, including the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre and the welfare of wards of battle casualties.
The PBG Soldierathon specifically intends to extend support to the horses and troops of the President’s Bodyguard.
The event adds to initiatives aimed at strengthening public engagement with the Armed Forces and recognising the contribution of serving personnel and veterans.
