Ajit Doval Meets Chinese Vice President Ahead of Crucial Border Talks

Beijing ,August 25 :Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Adviser, has met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing, marking a significant diplomatic engagement ahead of the much-anticipated 25th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks on the India-China boundary question. Doval arrived in the Chinese capital on Monday for a two-day visit at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, highlighting the importance both nations attach to addressing lingering border tensions and broader bilateral issues.

The Ajit Doval-Han Zheng meeting is one of the elements of the ongoing efforts to stabilize relations that nosedived after the deadly Galwan Valley clash in 2020 and the subsequent long military stand-off in eastern Ladakh.

The 25th round of talks between the Special Representatives on Tuesday is also expected to discuss wider regional and international issues along with focus on resolution of boundary disputes. The two sides will have “in-depth discussion” on the boundary question and continue dialogs according to the understandings reached between the leaders of the two countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said. Both countries have however reiterated their commitment to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas despite continuing differences including on Arunachal Pradesh.
