Nagaland Deputy CM Zeliang Loses Son; PM Offers Condolences
Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang, an entrepreneur, youth leader and sports enthusiast from Nagaland, passed away in Dimapur on Friday.

Dimapur, 10th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the untimely death of Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang, son of Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang, and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said he was pained by Kuchi’s passing and extended his thoughts to the Zeliang family and their friends during this difficult time. He also prayed for peace for the departed soul.
“Pained by the untimely passing of Mr. Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang, son of Nagaland’s Deputy CM, Mr. TR Zeliang. My thoughts are with the Zeliang family and their friends in this hour of grief. May the departed soul rest in peace,” Modi wrote.
Entrepreneur and Youth Development Advocate
Kuchi Rangkau Zeliang passed away at a private hospital in Dimapur on Friday evening, October 9. He was known as an entrepreneur, sports enthusiast and youth leader who contributed to youth development in Nagaland.
He was a founding member and co-chair for events at YouthNet, an organisation working in youth development, entrepreneurship and employment. He also served as an adviser to the Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur.
Remembered for His Contribution to Sports
Kuchi was associated with football and was the founder of Barak FC, a club that has played a prominent role in Nagaland’s football scene. He was also involved in promoting pickleball in the state and served as an adviser to the Nagaland Pickleball Association.
Condolences have also poured in from political leaders and community organisations. The Naga People’s Front remembered him for his humility, gentle nature and friendly rapport with people, while youth and community groups described his passing as a significant loss.
The family’s loss has drawn messages of sympathy from across Nagaland, with leaders and organisations expressing solidarity and praying for strength and comfort for those grieving his death.
