TASHKENT, 30th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred with Uzbekistan’s highest honour for foreign leaders, the “Oliy Darajali Do’stlik” Order (Order of Highest Friendship), by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The honour was conferred on Modi in recognition of his contribution to strengthening friendship between India and Uzbekistan.
Accepting the award, Modi dedicated the honour to the 1.4 billion people of India and described it as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries and their civilisations.
The Prime Minister said the appreciation expressed by President Mirziyoyev was a tribute to the longstanding friendship and shared heritage between India and Uzbekistan.
Modi also said the honour carried an added responsibility for India to work together with Uzbekistan as partners in the Global South for the betterment of humanity.
The conferment of the Oliy Darajali Do’stlik Order comes as India and Uzbekistan deepen their bilateral engagement and strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The recognition also underscores the importance both countries attach to their historical, cultural and civilisational ties and their expanding cooperation across strategic and developmental areas.
