SANTIAGO, 30th Aug: India–Chile negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) gained further momentum after Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal met Chile’s Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations, Paula Estévez Weinstein, in Santiago on August 26.

The meeting focused on advancing negotiations and strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries. India reiterated its commitment to openness, sustained engagement and a balanced approach aimed at creating meaningful opportunities for businesses and people in both countries.

Both sides emphasised the need to build on the growing India–Chile relationship and ensure that the CEPA delivers concrete and commercially meaningful opportunities for businesses.

Focus on key economic sectors
Agrawal highlighted the potential for expanded cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, minerals, agriculture, machinery and engineering.

India and Chile, both members of the Global South, also share a strategic vision that provides a foundation for deeper economic cooperation and shared growth.

India remains committed to concluding the CEPA negotiations within 2026, with the objective of establishing a balanced and mutually beneficial framework.

The proposed agreement is expected to create new opportunities for trade and investment, while strengthening cooperation in technology, talent and resilient supply chains.

The successful conclusion of the negotiations is expected to provide further momentum to the expanding bilateral economic relationship between India and Chile.
