Vice Admiral Dilip Raghavan Takes Charge as DGHS

Surgeon Vice Admiral Raghavan assumes appointment as Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces)

New Delhi, 2nd Sept: Surgeon Vice Admiral Dilip Raghavan, VSM, assumed the appointment of Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces) on September 1, 2026, the Ministry of Defence said.

Raghavan joined AFMC Pune in 1985 and completed his MBBS in 1989.
He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on December 26, 1989.
He has served as Command Medical Officer at Southern and Eastern Naval Commands.
He received the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in January 2026.

Born and educated in Chennai and Mumbai, Surgeon Vice Admiral Raghavan joined the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, in 1985 and completed his MBBS in 1989. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on December 26, 1989.

During his career, he has held several key medical appointments, including Command Medical Officer at Southern Naval Command and Eastern Naval Command.

He also served as Commanding Officer of INHS Asvini, Mumbai. During his tenure, the hospital was awarded the Raksha Mantri Trophy for the Best Command Hospital.

In recognition of his distinguished service, Surgeon Vice Admiral Raghavan was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal on January 26, 2026.

Surgeon Vice Admiral Raghavan is married to Dr Michelle Vas, a paediatrician specialising in Developmental Neurology. She is also an alumnus of AFMC Pune and a former Short Service Commission officer in the Indian Navy.
