New Delhi, 14th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team after it won the Asia Cup with an emphatic 4-1 victory over South Korea in the final in Moqi, China, on Sunday.
India produced a dominant performance to successfully defend its title and lift the Men’s Junior Asia Cup for a record sixth time. The victory extended India’s record as the most successful team in the competition.
India entered the final after an unbeaten campaign, including a 3-1 semi-final victory over Malaysia. The team had also defeated South Korea 7-3 during the pool stage.
The 4-1 final victory also secured India’s place in the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup 2027, with the Junior Asia Cup serving as the qualification pathway for Asian teams.
In a post on X, Modi described the achievement as a remarkable accomplishment and said the success reflected the immense talent of India’s young players. He extended his best wishes to the entire team.
The men’s triumph came on the same day that the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team defeated China 1-0 to retain the women’s Asia Cup, giving India a double title victory in the 2026 Junior Asia Cup.
