Jitendra Singh Launches CSIR-NIScPR Magazines in 5 Languages
New publications in Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese aim to expand access to scientific knowledge

New Delhi, 26th Sept: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology Dr Jitendra Singh on Saturday launched five popular science magazines in Indian languages published by the CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR).
The launch took place on the occasion of the 85th Foundation Day of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The new magazines are Bigyan Lahar in Assamese, Bigyan Brittanto in Bengali, Vidnyan Kshitij in Marathi, Ariviyal Arikkaiyalar in Tamil and Vigyan Velugu in Telugu.
The initiative expands CSIR-NIScPR’s popular science publishing portfolio, which already includes Science Reporter in English, Vigyan Pragati in Hindi and Science Ki Duniya in Urdu.
According to CSIR-NIScPR, the new publications seek to make credible and engaging scientific information accessible to readers in their respective languages. They will also highlight scientific achievements, innovations and developments from different regions.
A key feature of the initiative is the use of Artificial Intelligence to facilitate the translation of selected content from CSIR-NIScPR’s existing science magazines.
The AI-assisted translations will subsequently undergo review, proofreading, fact-checking and editorial refinement by human experts to ensure scientific accuracy, linguistic quality and readability.
The magazines will also carry original articles written in the respective Indian languages, aimed at encouraging science writing and highlighting regional scientific achievements.
The launch ceremony was attended by Dr N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR and Secretary, DSIR, and Dr Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director, CSIR-NIScPR, along with editors and representatives of the five publications.
The initiative has been coordinated by Shri Mukesh Ambadas Pund and Dr Meher Wan, with contributions from the respective editorial, design and institutional teams.
The launch marks another step by CSIR-NIScPR towards strengthening multilingual science communication and supporting the vision of an inclusive and scientifically informed India.
