NEW YORK – The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Wednesday asserted that the Turkish leader has no locus standi to speak on matters pertaining to India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
India slammed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Jammu and Kashmir remarks during his address at the UN General Assembly, rejected them as “unwarranted references”.
“India rejects the unwarranted references to Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, made by the Turkish President during his UNGA address. This is a matter pertaining to India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and no external party has any locus standi on this issue,” Jaiswal said.
Erdogan, during his UNGA address in New York sought to link Kashmir with other South Asian disputes and called for a UN-backed resolution.
“In South Asia, it is important that all disputes, including the Kashmir issue, be addressed through dialogue within the framework of the UN Charter and of relevant resolutions,” Erodgan had said.
Jaiswal also underlined External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s UNGA address where he highlighted the issue of cross-border terrorism.
“The External Affairs Minister once again highlighted that cross-border terrorism is a cause of major concern, and countries need to come together to fight this global menace,” he added.
