New Delhi, 3rd Oct: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s appreciation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts towards global peace was a matter of pride for Indians. Shah’s remarks came a day after Putin publicly praised Modi’s efforts to seek a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

In a post on X, Shah said Putin’s comments, made around Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, highlighted India’s message of peace and non-violence. He said India had emerged as a voice for dialogue and diplomacy during periods of international conflict.

Shah said Modi has consistently conveyed that solutions to conflicts cannot emerge from battlefields but through dialogue and diplomacy. He also pointed to India’s humanitarian assistance during wars and disasters as an expression of the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

Putin, speaking on Friday, said Modi was among world leaders who had repeatedly raised the question of ending the Ukraine conflict and had offered ideas for a peaceful settlement.

Shah linked Putin’s remarks with Gandhi Jayanti, saying the timing reinforced the relevance of India’s longstanding message of peace and non-violence. Prime Minister Modi had earlier paid tribute to Gandhi at Rajghat and reiterated the continuing relevance of his ideals.
