Navsari, 3rd Oct: Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil participated in a special Gram Sabha organised under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ initiative at Majigam Gram Panchayat in Chikhli, Navsari district, on October 2, marking the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, as well as Swachh Bharat Diwas.
Addressing villagers, Patil said Mahatma Gandhi had emphasised both freedom and cleanliness. While India achieved independence, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made cleanliness a nationwide public commitment through the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Patil said special Gram Sabhas being held across the country were strengthening public participation and providing Panchayats with a platform to plan village development, discuss local requirements and contribute to the goal of a clean and developed India.
He also highlighted the role of the ‘Swachh Sujal Gaon Assessment’, an initiative of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, in supporting village-level sanitation and drinking-water efforts.
The Union Minister urged citizens to treat cleanliness not as a one-day campaign but as part of their daily lives, behaviour and collective responsibility. He called for a commitment to neither spread nor allow others to spread waste.
The programme was attended by Gujarat Minister Nareshbhai Patel, Surat city BJP president Pareshbhai Patel, Navsari district BJP president Bhurabhai Shah, MLA Rakeshbhai Desai, Aishwarya Singh, Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), senior officials of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the Navsari District Collector, District Development Officer and other state and district officials.
