New Delhi, 6th Oct: President Droupadi Murmu received Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday and hosted a banquet in his honour, highlighting the strong and expanding ties between India and Switzerland.
Welcoming President Parmelin to India, President Murmu said the two countries share warm and cordial relations rooted in common values of democracy and the rule of law. She noted that bilateral cooperation spans trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, culture, and people-to-people ties.
The President said regular high-level exchanges between India and Switzerland have provided continued momentum to bilateral relations.
Describing Switzerland as an important trade and investment partner, Murmu highlighted the opportunities created by the implementation of the India-European Free Trade Association Trade and Partnership Agreement for further expanding bilateral trade and investment.
She also noted the significant presence of Swiss companies in India, particularly in the infrastructure sector. Swiss firms have been involved in areas including the construction of roads, railway bridges and tunnels. Murmu said Switzerland could further explore opportunities in emerging sectors such as clean and green technology and Artificial Intelligence.
President Murmu welcomed the signing of important agreements during President Parmelin’s visit to promote cooperation in migration and mobility, research, and technology transfer.
The two leaders agreed that closer cooperation between India and Switzerland could bring significant benefits to the people of both countries. They expressed confidence that President Parmelin’s visit would contribute to further strengthening bilateral relations.
