New Delhi, 5th Oct: IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, on Monday announced an increase in fuel surcharge on domestic and international flights, citing a sharp rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices.

The revised fuel charges will come into effect from October 6, resulting in higher airfares for passengers. For domestic flights, the surcharge increase will range from Rs 100 to Rs 350, depending on the distance travelled. The airline said the hike has also been implemented on international flights.

IndiGo said the continuous rise in fuel prices, including a latest month-on-month increase of more than 14 per cent, has pushed ATF costs to among their highest levels in the last decade.
“Given that Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) makes up a significant share of airlines’ operating costs, this rise is expected to impact airlines’ cost structures and network economics, including those of IndiGo,” the airline said in a statement.

In view of the higher fuel costs, IndiGo said it had “marginally re-calibrated” its fuel charges across both domestic and international flights.

The move is expected to increase the overall travel cost for passengers from October 6 as airlines continue to face pressure from elevated fuel prices.
